If you are like most, you have dreamt about your wedding day for as long as you can remember! It's not everyday you go out and buy a white, formal gown, made of expensive silks and lace. However, your wedding dress will probably be the most memorable dress you’ll ever wear. Many thoughts go into choosing the perfect wedding dress. You get an imagine what you want your wedding day to be like as well as how you want to look and feel. When a bride finds the right dress, she just "knows" it is the right dress because she'll get an emotional flood that takes over all her senses, or sense of peace of mind. Remember not every bride cries when they find their dress, everyone is different. But, here are a few things to remember when you go shopping for that dress: You don't want to bring EVERYONEWhen shopping for you wedding gown don’t bring ALL six bridesmaids and your mother. If you bring too many people shopping, it can be very confusing with several different opinions. When brides bring too many people they end up getting frustrated and overwhelmed. Try shopping with just one or two people, four max. Try to look your bestWhen you go shopping for YOUR dress – try to look your best. Sometimes even the most beautiful gown won’t look just "right" if your hair is a mess and you don't feel pretty. Also, be sure to wear proper undergarments, because hot pink underwear is not a trend you want to look back on in photos of this memorable experience. Have an open mindGo into your appointment with an open mind. It is okay to have an idea of gowns that you envision yourself wearing, but know that you may change your mind and that is okay. Even if you do have an open mind, we suggest pinning, taking screenshots, and bringing in inspiration so that we can pull gowns similar. Just know that dresses are unattractive on a hangar, and by trying on dresses that you think are not what you want, may be the dress of your dreams in hiding. It is OK to find your gown at the first shopBrides often times have FOMO (fear of missing out), thinking that they need to go and shop everywhere. Honestly, having seen this numerous of times, shopping at every bridal shop causes confusion and wedding gowns start to look rather similar. Having 1- 2 shops is ideal, because a stylist is able to work with details you are loving about a dress and find a gown that is YOUR dream dress. The shops you choose should be bridal boutiques that you trust and that you can utilize the services they provide. Some bridal shops even offer other experiences throughout your planning so that you can enjoy being a bride throughout the whole process up until your wedding day. Tips & tricks for ordering your dressWedding dresses take about 4 to 6 months to get in from the designer. When a stylist takes your measurement please know that these measurements are used to decide a size, not for customizing a gown. The size chosen will be one standard bridal size, and later one will be altered to fit you like a glove.
When you to go order your wedding dress, order the dress in your current size. Don't order a smaller size anticipating to lose weight. It's always easier (and LESS EXPENSIVE) to take in a dress rather than letting it out. Wedding dresses often run small. Even though you might be a size 10 in jeans, you’ll likely need to purchase at least a size 12 wedding dress. Before you order your dress, be sure to check into the shop. How long have they been in business? Do they have a seamstress? Are they honest? and do they communicate well? These questions may not be something you truly care about but, know exactly what kind of bridal shop you want to say, "YES to the dress" at. YOU ARE INVITED!! You will need to schedule online or over the phone. When making an appointment please state that you are wanting to come to the Fiesta!! When you arrive to your appointment, you will have 1 hour to try on the Fiesta of Flowers dresses. Only 6 gowns can be brought into the fitting room with you. We ask that you only bring a couple people, and someone to help you in/out of dresses since we may not have a stylist available to help you. Sizes vary on the gown, each gown will only have one size available (the sample). Brides always come in with a vision, but don't know how to explain what they are looking for. Even though pictures are amazing, sometimes as stylists we use terms that not everyone would know! Dress shopping is like learning a whole new language, but don't worry we've got you covered!! We will give you the basics and you will learn all about bridal. We hope this dictionary is helpful and prepares you for your dress shopping!! SilhouettesA-Line Silhouette: An A-line wedding dress features a skirt that gradually begins to flare out from a fitted bodice, starting below the natural waist, and lightly skimming the hips, as it and extends to the hem, forming an "A" shape. This silhouette is thought to be universally figure-flattering. Fit and Flare Silhouette: A dress with a fitted bodice through the hips and a flared skirt. Often times brides will use the term 'mermaid' for this style, but mermaids and trumpets have a whole different look! Sheath Silhouette: A long, narrow, slim-fitting silhouette with straight, lines usually made from lighter fabrics, such as satin or chiffon, which is more suitable for the body-skimming shape. Ballgown: The “fairy tale” dress, with a fitted bodice, flairs at the waist with a full skirt. Ideal for most body types but looks great on pears, since it hides the lower body. Not good for petites; the skirt can be overwhelming on a small frame. Trumpet: Fitted through the body and flairs mid-thigh. The cut is between a modified a-line and a mermaid cut. Ideal for frames with small waists, such as the hourglass, banana, and petites. Not good for pears and apples, as it accentuates stomach and hip area. Mermaid: Fitted on the body from the chest to the knee, then flares out close to the knee. Ideal for slender frames and hourglass body types who are willing to show off their curves. Not good for apples and plus size body types. Tea-Length: Skirt falls in between the ankle and the knee. Ideal for all body types. Wedding Dress TermsBustle: A fancy word for a sewing method used to transition a gown with a long train into a length that makes it easier to walk and dance in.
Bodice: The top part of your dress, above the waist. Boning: This gives a dress' bodice structure and prevents drooping, especially in a strapless dress and we seriously cannot stress how important this is in a strapless dress!! Which is why we carry the exclusive designers that we do here at OUTW. Chiffon: A very soft, delicate fabric that is extremely sheer and layered for modesty. This fabric is best known for being popular for bridesmaids dresses but is also becoming a lot more popular for wedding gowns. Corset: A lace up back of the bodice, whether for ascetics or wiggle room with your size. Give yourself some extra time on your wedding day to lace it up! Illusion Back: A more recent trend in wedding gowns - this design gives you the look of an open back with the comfort and beauty of a full coverage gown. Organza: A type fabric/material that is made from silk, but is much stiffer than chiffon. It has a similar sheen to it, like satin but without all the weight while still creating volume in a dress. Often used for full skirts to give it more flow than tulle. Sweetheart Neckline: A strapless bodice with rounded fabric over each breast, meeting in a V-neck point in the middle - makes a heart-like shape. Train: The long back portion of a the dress that trails behind the bride. Trains can be different lengths. Brides adore this feature for walking down the isle and formal pictures. |
